Distinction Hotels Group Withdraws from Wanaka Property

The Distinction Hotels Group will assign the management agreement of Distinction Wanaka Alpine Resort to THC Hotels & Resorts effective 1 June 2024. 

The property has been managed by the group since 2015. Nestled in a quiet Lake Wanaka location in the South Island of New Zealand, the all-seasons resort provides self-contained 1, 2, 3 and 5 bedroom apartments.

The Wanaka property was unique in that it is not owned by the Distinction Hotels Group, unlike the majority of their other hotels. 

CEO Duncan Fletcher said “whilst the resort had yielded positive results over the past decade, thanks largely to its dedicated staff and the support shown by our trade partners, the time has come to streamline our business profile and invest more significantly in our ownership models”.

The new management rights will be assumed by THC Hotels & Resorts with well-known hotel professional Ken Harris at the helm.

Ken Harris said “THC Hotels & Resorts is delighted to welcome Alpine Resort Wanaka as its newest management property. This resort is an ideal fit with properties we currently manage in Queenstown and Christchurch. With its breathtaking views and guest services, Alpine Resort remains a market leader in Wanaka and one we are proud to be associated with.” 

To ensure a seamless transition, all existing reservations and rates will be honoured and the Resort staff will be retained. Current reservations contact details will also initially remain the same.
